Who this is for

Every year, thousands of parents fly long-haul alone: a mother visiting her children in Germany, a father returning to India after a family visit, a grandparent making their first connecting flight. Airports are stressful in an unfamiliar language, and a familiar face on the same route changes the whole experience.

Many TravelCargo travelers are students, professionals, and frequent flyers who fly these exact corridors regularly and remember what it felt like when their own parents flew alone. This feature gives them a way to pay that kindness forward.

What a companion can help with

At the airport

Check-in queues, security, finding the gate, boarding announcements, and staying calm through delays.

During transfers

Navigating terminal changes, immigration lines, re-checking luggage, and making tight connections.

Language help

Translating announcements, signs, and questions with airline or security staff when needed.

Gentle assistance

Carrying a small cabin bag, a steadying arm on stairs, or simply keeping company through the flight.

The scope is always what your family and the companion agree together in advance, this is friendly help, not professional care (see the note below).

How to write a good request

Requests that find companions quickly usually include:

  • The full itinerary: flight numbers, dates, and connection airports
  • Which languages your parent speaks, and how comfortable they are in English
  • The specific help that would matter: gates, transfers, a cabin bag, company
  • Mobility notes (wheelchair assistance already booked, walks slowly, any limits)
  • How the companion can reach you (the family) during the journey

Meet or video-call the companion before the flight, introduce them to your parent, and share contacts with the whole family so everyone knows who is helping.
